ERI, the electronics recycler, and Ecoreco have formed a joint venture called ERI India.
The partnership will build certified e-waste processing capacity in several Indian states over the next three years, according to a statement released by both companies on Tuesday.
Executives said the venture would focus on enterprise IT equipment, data-bearing devices and large appliances, and would meet international data-destruction standards.
The companies did not disclose financial terms. Industry observers said the move reflects growing regulatory pressure on producers under extended producer responsibility rules, and expect similar partnerships to follow across the region in the coming year.
Ecoreco already operates collection centres in Maharashtra, and the new entity will draw on that network while adding processing lines.
