Copyright (c) 2026 Robert Chen

1. Scope

This license covers AnaSim 1.6 and later versions distributed under these terms,
including source code, executable code, and documentation (the "Software").
Robert Chen is the "Licensor". "You" means the individual or organization
exercising these permissions.

The Licensor grants only rights the Licensor controls. Third-party licenses
and their obligations remain in effect, as do rights granted under earlier
AnaSim licenses.

Early AnaSim total intravenous anesthesia implementations adapted code from
Python Anesthesia Simulator (GNU General Public License version 3) and have
since been substantially rewritten. Its project and license are available at
https://github.com/AnesthesiaSimulation/Python_Anesthesia_Simulator.

2. Free uses

You may use, copy, run, study, display, and modify the Software without charge for:

a. Individual self-directed study and personal experimentation, including by
students, residents, and clinicians, regardless of affiliation or employment.
b. Noncommercial teaching, training, assessment, research, or internal deployment
by nonprofit organizations and government bodies. This includes nonprofit
universities, research institutes, and hospitals, and internal hosting for
their participating staff, students, and researchers.

Ordinary tuition, salaries, and recovery of actual costs do not by themselves
make qualifying institutional activities commercial. Work for commercial
clients is governed by Section 3.

These permissions are worldwide, nonexclusive, and perpetual, subject to
compliance with this license.

3. Uses requiring a separate license

Except for sharing copies and contributions under Sections 4 and 5, these
activities require a separate written license from the Licensor before use:

a. Institutional use outside Section 2.
b. Commercial use, including use by or on behalf of a for-profit organization,
contract research or services for a commercial client, paid courses or
services outside Section 2, sale or commercial distribution of the Software,
and integration into commercial products or services.
c. Hosting a running instance of the Software for others, except internal
   hosting permitted by Section 2.

These requirements apply even when access is free or provided through the
Licensor's hosted version. The written agreement sets the scope and fees;
the Licensor may waive fees in writing. Contact rob@robche.com.

4. Sharing copies and modifications

You may share unmodified or modified copies without charge for recipients'
uses permitted by Section 2, including through public source forks, mirrors,
and package archives.

Include this license, retain copyright notices, third-party notices,
attributions, and source references, and identify your changes. You may
license your original additions separately; the Software in a combined work
remains subject to this license.

5. Contributions

For original material you intentionally submit for inclusion in AnaSim under
this license, you grant the Licensor a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable,
nonexclusive, royalty-free copyright license to use, reproduce, modify,
prepare derivative works, publicly display, publicly perform, distribute,
and sublicense that material under these or other terms, including
institutional and commercial licenses. You retain ownership of your
contributions.

Submit only material you have authority to license. Identify third-party
material and its terms when submitting it; the grant excludes that material.
Earlier contributions retain their original terms.

6. Compliance

Permissions terminate automatically if you breach this license. They are
restored if you correct the breach within 30 days after you discover it,
unless your permissions previously terminated for another breach. The
Licensor may also reinstate them in writing.
Recipients who comply with their own licenses retain their rights.

Rights provided by applicable law or a separate valid license remain in effect.
No trademark rights or permission to imply the Licensor's endorsement are
granted. All other rights are reserved.

7. Warranty and liability

The Software is intended for education, research, and experimentation.
Do not use it to guide clinical care.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS",
WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES
OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND
NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE LICENSOR OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE
FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT,
TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE
OR ITS USE.
