Remember when you learned how to read English?
We were taught some basic rules that allowed us to read words like `see spot run`.
That sentence is great because it follows some simple rules we were taught:

- each letter has a sound
- the `e` after a vowel makes the vowel say its name

Not bad...

Then reality hit! `See Spot Run` is a unicorn! In reality, most words break spelling rules.

Instead of teaching math, the arts, ethics, science, etc, we dedicate time to teaching sight reading and spelling bees.
(Many countries don't have spelling bees; there just isn't a reason for them.)

`inglish` shows you a world of spelling as defined by the CMU pronunciation dictionary and a set of simple rules to produce a consistent, reasonable spelling.
You can use the tools we provide to translate English spelling to Inglish spelling.
There is even a JavaScript fragment you can include on your website to translate it to Inglish.

There is also an MCP server (`inglish_mcp.py`) that exposes the translator to LLM clients such as Claude Desktop and Claude Code, with `translate`, `lookup_word`, and `reverse_translate` tools and the spelling rules served as resources. Install its dependency with `pip install -r requirements.txt`, then register it:

```
claude mcp add inglish -- python3 /path/to/inglish/inglish_mcp.py
```

The server can also run as a remote MCP endpoint over streamable HTTP (`inglish_mcp.py --http`); see `deploy/` for hosting it behind nginx with TLS.
