Terms of participation and licence
On this site volunteers label Croatian words in sentences taken from language corpora: they judge whether two words share a lemma, confirm or correct lemmas, and judge proposed stems. The answers are used to evaluate and improve an open Croatian stemmer and are published as an open dataset. By accepting these terms you agree to take part on the conditions below.
1. Who may take part
- People aged 18 or over. Profiles of younger people are erased as soon as we learn of them.
- Each person may have only one profile.
2. What participation is
Participation is voluntary and unpaid. It creates no employment or any other relationship that would entitle you to payment. You can stop at any time and erase your profile on the "My data" page.
3. Rules of conduct
- Answer honestly and to the best of your knowledge, following the labeling guidelines.
- When you are not sure, choose "Not sure". Such an answer is useful and does not count as a mistake.
- Answer yourself. Answering with scripts, programs, automated tools or artificial-intelligence systems is not allowed.
- Opening several profiles, sharing a profile with others or using someone else's profile is not allowed.
- Circumventing the service's limits, disrupting it or trying to access other people's data is not allowed.
4. What the project lead may do
- Assess how reliable answers are and give them more or less weight in the dataset accordingly.
- Set a profile aside temporarily (its answers are then disregarded until a person reviews them), exclude a profile's answers from the dataset, or block a profile that breaks these terms. If you disagree with such a decision, write to the contact address.
- Limit the number of answers per minute and per day, pause the collection of answers, and change or end the project.
- Publish a dataset containing your answers on the terms of section 5. Published data never contains your name or email address.
5. Licence of your contributions
The items you label contain sentences from language corpora by other authors. Each item shows the source and licence of its corpus. For example, the hr500k corpus (Ljubešić and Samardžić, CLARIN.SI, hdl.handle.net/11356/1792) is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0) licence. A dataset that contains those sentences alongside the answers is an adaptation of the corpus and must be published under a licence the corpus allows.
Therefore, to the extent you hold any rights in your contributions (answers, typed lemmas and flags):
- you license your contributions, as part of the dataset, to the project lead and to everyone else under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) licence. You agree that attribution is given collectively, as "contributors to the Croatian stemmer labeling project", without your name;
- for the labels alone, without corpus texts (for example a file containing only item identifiers and answers), you waive all such rights under Creative Commons CC0 1.0, so that such a file can be used freely with corpora under any licence.
Creative Commons licences are irrevocable: a dataset that has already been published cannot be withdrawn. If you erase your profile, your answers remain in the dataset under a new random identifier that can no longer be linked to you (see the participation statement and the privacy notice).
You confirm that the answers are your own work and that giving them does not infringe anyone else's rights.
6. No warranty
The service is provided "as is", without any warranty of uninterrupted availability or correctness. Items, suggested lemmas and stems may contain errors; they are aids, not correct answers.
7. Limitation of liability
The project lead is liable for damage only if caused intentionally or by gross negligence, and in other cases where liability cannot be excluded under the applicable law. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under data protection law or mandatory consumer rights.
8. Ending participation
You can stop taking part at any time and erase your profile on the "My data" page. The project lead may block a profile that breaks these terms. Sections 5 and 7 continue to apply after participation ends, for contributions made until then.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Croatia. If you are a consumer living in another EU member state, you keep the protection of that state's mandatory law.
10. Changes to the terms
The terms carry a version number and a date at the top. When we publish a new version, we will ask you to accept it again before your next answer. Contributions made before then remain under the terms of the version in force at the time.
