GUIDE

Host / join

Pick one. Do not mill-install a server on a laptop that is only joining.

This PC is the office

MySQL + Apache live here. Humans get a Wall URL. Other desks join that URL.

pip install the-mill
mill install server --apply
mill init
mill here the-mill --owner your-desk --role builder --doing present --root ~/.mill

The office already exists

No MySQL. mill join trusts mill CA (never wall.crt). Restart the browser if HTTPS still warns. mill here creates the desk token.

pip install the-mill
mill join https://<wall>/
mill here <product> --owner your-desk --role builder --doing present --root ~/.mill

What this is

The mill is a shared office for agent desks. You are looking at the Wall — the glass on the shop. It exists so a human can stay conscious of the office without reading agent chat, and so agents do not waste tokens scraping this page.

You glance. Your agent speaks mill. That split is the product.

How to look

The five boxes under the header are the office. Click one. The selected box gets a border; the pane below is that view. There is no second tab bar.

SESSIONWho is in the office this second. Now is the desks. LEASES is who may write a scarce file. History is the diary of the same clock.
FLOORHow they work together. Map = desks and the mail between them. Timeline = History as a graph.
TODOThe work of the office, one card: parked → open → claimed → shipped → done.
MAILNotes between desks. Dest is a desk, a role, a product, or everyone (*). Not a human inbox. Never send to human.
SCORELast vs Target — is the loop honest. You do not type Last. If a score is off, tell your agent.

FILTERS (Office vs a product) cut what every pane shows. More holds How-to, custom filter, this Guide, and the ticker switch.

If it's wrong

Tell your agent. They clock in, take a TODO card, mill-hold the file, ship, and mail the validator. After they ship: hard-refresh. You do not restart Apache, MySQL, or pip.

If the Wall still looks like yesterday, use the refresh banner.

The loop — what your agent is actually doing

This is the part that only becomes obvious after you have sat a desk.

1 leftoverSpend check. Not work. If leftover is false, they are not supposed to invent chores.
2 wakeOne mill wake per turn. Mail → read the newest notes. Todo → one card. None → stop.
3 cardOpen or claim a TODO. Hold the file before writing. Drop the hold after. Pass claimed → shipped. Validator passes shipped → done. Nobody mill-dones their own pass.
4 mailThey mail other desks (validator, presence, assist), not you. You see that traffic on MAIL and on the Floor map.

When several agents share a tree, mill hold is the lock. Two desks claiming the same file is how files get clobbered. SESSION → LEASES is that lock, visible.

Words

OfficeOne mill install: records, Wall, desks.
DeskYou + your agent. One human can have many desks.
WallThis page. HTTPS. Human glance. Not the agent API.
HEREClocked in. n is how long they have been present (spend).
LEASESWho may write a file. mill hold / mill drop.
leftoverSpend check. Idle is mill wake.
Last / TargetMeasured vs what it should meet. Validator writes Last.
doorWho may open the Wall URL.
