Licensing history
-----------------

Aria Code has been published under three licenses. Each grant is per-version
and none of them is retroactive, so the terms that apply to you depend on the
version you obtained:

up to and including 4.1.2 MIT License
  4.2.0 through 4.4.5 Business Source License 1.1 (source-available,
not an Open Source license; converts to Apache
                              License 2.0 on 2030-06-23)
0.44.0 and later Apache License, Version 2.0

The 0.x line is not a downgrade from 4.x. It is a deliberate restart of the
version counter on the Codex model — minor is the release count, patch is
reserved for hotfixes — adopted so that releases move in small increments
instead of the large jumps the 4.x line had taken. See docs/VERSIONING.md.

The BSL releases remain available under BSL 1.1; relicensing them is not
possible, because a license grant already made to a recipient cannot be
withdrawn. Apache 2.0 applies to this version and every version after it.

Scope
-----

This license covers everything in this repository, with no carve-outs. That
includes the CLI, the agent runtime, the tool and permission system, MCP
integration, the repo map, the acceptance gate, the eval framework, the SDK,
the domain packs -- and, as of this version, packages/quant_engine, whose
source is still in the tree.

That last point is deliberate to state rather than leave implied, because a
grant made on a released version cannot be withdrawn afterwards.

What remains under packages/quant_engine is stochastic/, sports/, backtest/ and
portfolio/. Six further subpackages -- services/, agent_runtime/, risk/,
analysis/, strategies/ and mcp_server.py -- are not in this repository and are
not covered by this license; the code here imports them optionally and degrades
when they are absent. See CLOSING_SOURCE.md and
tests/test_engine_boundary.py, which pins that split.
