Jesse and Skinny Pete track down the two meth addicts who robbed Skinny Pete to recover the stolen money and product. They identify the couple — a man named Spooge and his unnamed wife — living in a filthy, cluttered house in a dangerous neighborhood. Jesse goes to the house alone, armed with his gun, determined to prove he can enforce his territory. He kicks in the door and confronts Spooge, demanding the money. Spooge and his wife are both deep in addiction and barely coherent. Jesse discovers a young red-haired boy, roughly five years old, living in the squalor — unfed, unwashed, and watching television with the volume turned up to block out his parents' chaos. Jesse is visibly shaken by the child's condition but stays focused on the money. Spooge claims he does not have the cash but offers to pay Jesse with a stolen ATM machine sitting in the living room, which he has been trying to break open. Jesse waits as Spooge attempts various methods to crack the ATM. The hours drag on, and Jesse finds himself intermittently watching over the boy, adjusting his blanket and changing the television channel for him. Spooge's wife mocks Spooge for his incompetence, and the two argue viciously. Walt, in a separate storyline, continues to deceive Skyler about the source of his treatment funding. He tells Skyler that Elliott and Gretchen are paying for his medical bills, when in fact he has rejected their offer and is paying with drug money. Walt visits his oncologist and begins an aggressive chemotherapy regimen that leaves him nauseous and exhausted. Skyler calls Gretchen to thank her for the financial help, and Gretchen, confused, says she knows nothing about it, creating a crack in Walt's lie that Skyler does not yet fully understand. Back at Spooge's house, Spooge finally tips the ATM onto its back and leans under it to pry at the mechanism. His wife, enraged after another insult, pushes the ATM off its perch and it crushes Spooge's head, killing him instantly. Jesse, horrified, grabs cash scattered from the broken ATM. Before fleeing, he calls 911 anonymously to report a child in danger, leads the boy outside to the front porch, and tells him to wait for the nice people who are coming. Jesse leaves with the money, and on the street his reputation grows because word spreads that he killed Spooge — a misattribution Jesse does not correct, as the fear it generates protects his dealers.
