CO:COLLECTION_SUMMARY            	Patients undergoing surgical resection of primary HCC at the University of
CO:COLLECTION_SUMMARY            	Kentucky (UK) were consented for tissue donation under institutional review
CO:COLLECTION_SUMMARY            	board protocols #44026 and #70872. Surgical  resection specimens were collected
CO:COLLECTION_SUMMARY            	as part of routine patient care and sent by the surgeon to UK surgical pathology

SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	Samples were aliquoted, flash frozen, and then stored in vapor-phase liquid
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	nitrogen freezers in the BPTP. Aliquots were transferred on dry ice to the BPTP
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	histology laboratory, embedded in OCT, and sectioned for hematoxylin and eosin
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	(H&E) staining. The H&E slides were reviewed by an independent pathologist to
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	identify tumor versus adjacent non-tumor tissue. Deidentified tissue samples

SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	metabolomic analyses.;Frozen tissue is sliced into small pieces before polar and
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	lipid extraction.;Performed by the UC Davis West Coast Metabolomics Center.
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	Extraction for lipids and polar hydrophilic small molecules were performed using
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	a previously established methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) protocol
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	(10.1194/jlr.D700041-JLR200). In short, 4 mg of liver tissue was weighed and 225
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	μL of ice-cold methanol containing an internal standard mixture was added with
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	750 μL of MTBE. Samples were then vortexed for 10s and mixed by shaking for 5
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	min at 4°C. After, 188 μL LC-MS grade H2O was added, samples were then vortexed
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	for 20 s and centrifuged for 2 min at 14,000 x rpm for phase separation. The
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	organic (upper; 350 μL) phase and the aqueous (bottom; 110 μL) phase were
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	separated into individual tubes and dried down.;Samples are shaken at 30°C for
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	1.5 h. Then, 91 μL of N-trimethylsilyl-N-methyl trifluoroacetamide (MSTFA) +
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) internal standards are added to each sample and
SP:SAMPLEPREP_SUMMARY            	are shaken at 37°C for 0.5 h to finish derivatization.
