How much money you actually have that is not already spoken for. Every figure below is a term of the calculation reported by the banner at the top of every page; each one links to the view it comes from, so a number that looks wrong can be tracked down rather than just observed.
Current pay period: {{ cp.pay_period.start_date|dateymd }} to {{ cp.pay_period.end_date|dateymd }}. Account balances are as of the dates shown in the detail tables below; a ledger balance can lag reality by days.
| + | Budget-funding account balances Ledger balance of every active bank and cash account. | {{ cp.budget_account_ledger|reddollars|safe }} |
| − | Adjustment for unreconciled transactions Transactions you have entered but not yet matched to a real bank transaction. Subtracting these turns the ledger balance above into the projected balance. Transactions that move no real cash are already excluded. | {{ cp.unreconciled|reddollars|safe }} |
| + | Outstanding credit account balances Money owed on a card is recorded as a negative balance, so adding this subtracts what you owe. A card carrying a positive balance — overpaid, or holding a statement credit larger than its balance — really does hold money you can spend, and correctly raises the figure below. | {{ cp.credit_balance|reddollars|safe }} |
| = | Net liquid position | {{ cp.net_liquid|reddollars|safe }} |
| − | Standing budget balances Money carried over from period to period in your active standing budgets. It is money you hold, but it is already assigned. | {{ cp.standing_total|reddollars|safe }} |
| − | Current pay period: allocated but not yet spent Allocated minus spent for the pay period containing today. This is not the pay period view's own “remaining” figure, which is income minus budgeted; the two answer different questions and routinely disagree. | {{ cp.pay_period_allocated_unspent|reddollars|safe }} |
| = | Truly unallocated / uncommitted funds | {{ cp.uncommitted|reddollars|safe }} |
The projected balance is the ledger balance net of that account's unreconciled transactions. The raw ledger figure can be several days out of date and is misleading on its own.

Balances are shown as recorded: negative when money is owed. Each charge on a card was budgeted on the day you made it, so it is already counted as committed; the cash to settle it is still in your checking account, which is why the card balance has to be taken off the available side.

No active standing budget is linked to these accounts, so their balances sit in the uncommitted total above with nothing accounting for them. That is usually the reason that figure is stubbornly non-zero.

A budget's money can be spread across several accounts, and one account commonly holds several earmarked budgets. Nothing records how much of a budget sits in which account, so where a group holds more than one account the difference is reported for the group as a whole rather than invented per account.
