Reading the Tide Pools
Tide pools form where rocky shores trap seawater as the tide goes out, leaving small basins that stay wet until the water returns.
Anemones close their tentacles during low tide to hold moisture, then open them again once the pool is refreshed by incoming waves.
Visitors are asked to step only on bare rock, because the algae and barnacles that coat the pool edges are easily crushed underfoot.
