Rivers rise across the north

Three rivers burst their banks overnight, flooding homes in four towns and closing two main roads.

The Environment Agency issued twelve severe warnings, the most since the winter storms of last year.

Residents were moved to a sports hall, where volunteers served hot meals until the early hours.
