English
What are Conundrums?
Conundrums are short, imagined dilemmas created by Astra Nova and shared through ClassDojo. They help children
compare choices, explain reasons and listen to disagreement. Many have no single best answer. Facts and scientific
reasoning still matter.
Their roots lie in Ad Astra, the school Josh Dahn co-founded with Elon Musk in 2014, attended by Musk’s children. Astra Nova
became independent in 2020. Its application process has used a student’s Conundrum response to hear their reasoning.
Use one challenge at a time: read or watch, choose privately, record facts on the worksheet, discuss the strongest alternative,
then revise your answer. Adults ask for reasons and give children time to think.

English
One challenge, one conversation 01 Understand the situation Read the scenario and all choices. Separate facts from
assumptions. Check the linked video if anything is unclear.
02 Choose on your own Spend two minutes choosing and writing two reasons before hearing anyone else.
03 Compare alternatives Each person explains a choice. Ask: “What is the strongest reason for another option?” 04
Reconsider Complete the worksheet. State what changed your mind, or why your view survived the discussion.
For adults: invite quieter voices. Ask for evidence. Avoid scoring children by whether they agree with you. A suggested
session lasts 20–30 minutes.

NATURE & THE FUTURE
English
The endangered Novaroo has lived for millennia in one country’s protected forest. Its food is a special slow-growing tree. It is
a national symbol appearing in the anthem, flag and money, and tourists come to see it. A neighbour secretly plants that tree
across the border. When the new forest matures, all the animals wander into it.
