The default 100 matches the maximum candidate batch requested from each academic provider, using a full retrieval round without adding another request; unused candidates stay in memory for Find More. N is the final target for academic or mixed searches; source slots use 3:3:3:1, 4:4:2, or 7:3 with Web Search, and academic sources fill shortages. Web-only searches ignore N and use actual SearXNG pages.
A SearXNG service must be running at this URL. Managed setup prefers port 8888 and automatically chooses 8889–8898 if needed.
