The five best desk lamps of 2026

By Sam Lee

We tested twenty-three desk lamps over two months of late nights, measuring brightness, colour and glare, and living with each one long enough to find out what it was like to use.

1. Arden Oak

The best lamp for most people: warm, even light that doesn't glare off a screen, a base heavy enough that it never tips, and a dimmer you can reach without looking.

2. Mira Brass

If you need to light a large desk, the Mira's long arm reaches further than anything else we tried, though its clamp is fiddly to fit on a thick worktop.

3. Tove Ceramic

The prettiest lamp here and the dimmest. It's a lamp for reading by in the evening rather than for working under, and that is no bad thing.

4. Ilse Task

A plain, cheap clip-on that does exactly one job well. The light is a little cold, but the price makes it the one to buy for a second desk or a child's room.

5. Brio LED

The most adjustable lamp we tested, with colour temperature you can set from candle to daylight, let down by an app that wants an account before it will work.
