Computer use, 2026 edition

A year on from our first computer-use preview, we are releasing the next generation of agentic computer-use capabilities. The new model drives a desktop with substantially higher reliability, better visual grounding, and improved recovery from unexpected UI states.

In benchmarks across screen-grounded automation tasks, the 2026 model completes 71% of multi-step workflows end-to-end, compared to 41% for the original preview. Average steps per task drop by 28%, and the model is markedly better at backing out of dead ends without operator intervention.

Safety remains the gating consideration. We are shipping the new capabilities behind explicit allowlists for production agents, and new logging primitives for application developers to audit screen state at each step. Detailed guidance is published alongside the model card and a refreshed responsible-use playbook.

Computer use, 2026 edition is available today via the Anthropic API in beta, with cloud-platform availability rolling out over the next several weeks. Read the full technical report and integration guide in our documentation.
