A computational fluid dynamics study of a centrifugal blood pump was
conducted under ASME V&V 40. The numerical code verification was performed
at level 2 by comparing simulated pressure fields against an analytical
benchmark. The discretization error was characterized at level 3 using a
grid convergence study with three mesh refinements. Model form was assessed
at level 2 against simplified Newtonian flow assumptions. Test samples were
limited to a single pump geometry; test conditions covered three flow rates
typical of clinical use. Output comparison evaluated pressure-volume curves
against in vitro measurements at level 3.
