# MATE-runtime

The runtime of [MATE](https://gitlab.com/artificial_evolution/mate/mate), the
Modular Algorithmic Toolkit for Evolution: the run loop, scheduling, storage
and the command line `MATE`. Its import name is `MATE`, which also re-exports
the contract types.

It loads protocols (TOML files or their Python form), runs them with the
`serial`, `thread`, `process` or `vectorised` executor, locally or on Slurm,
records every run in a SQLite database with its provenance, and resumes and
branches runs from their checkpoints. `MATE check` runs the conformance suite
on a module.

```
MATE launch protocol.toml
MATE status Files/protocol
MATE show Files/protocol/run_000
```

## Installation

Requires Python 3.14 or later.

```
pip install MATE-runtime
```

installs the runtime and the contract.
