Egyptian-American chemist Ahmed Hassan Zewail won the 1999 Nobel Prize
in Chemistry for his work on femtosecond spectroscopy, becoming the
first Arab laureate in the field. He held the Linus Pauling Chair of
Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology.

Saudi archaeologist Professor Saad Abdulaziz Alrashid was awarded the
King Faisal Prize in Islamic Studies for his studies of archaeology in
the Arabian Peninsula.

Sarah Al-Suhaimi is the first woman to chair the board of the Saudi
Tadawul Group, operator of the largest stock exchange in the Middle
East. She previously served as chief executive of NCB Capital.

In the United Arab Emirates, Bodour bint Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi
serves as President of the American University of Sharjah and founded
the Arabic children's publisher Kalimat Group in 2007.
