# mcp-server-arxiv (security placeholder)

**This is not an MCP server.** This package only prints a warning and exits with an error code.

## Why does it exist?

The mcp-agent CLI (lastmile-ai/mcp-agent) writes `{"command": "uvx", "args": ["mcp-server-arxiv"]}` for `mcp-agent server add recipe arxiv`, but no Python package of this name existed on PyPI. Anyone could have registered the name, and every agent with that configuration would have run their code at startup.

## What it does

Nothing, apart from printing a warning to stderr and exiting with code 1. No dependencies, no network access.

## If you see the warning

Remove the `arxiv` server from your `mcp_agent.config.yaml` and use an MCP server you have checked at its official source.

## For the maintainers of mcp-agent

The name is yours whenever you want it. Open an issue or contact me, and I will transfer it right away.
