# ForgeGrit CLI

Chat with every ForgeGrit model from your terminal. Free: no credit card, no trial credits.

```bash
pip install forgegrit-cli
```

## Sign in — pick one

```bash
forgegrit login              # use your ForgeGrit email + password (2FA supported)
forgegrit register           # create a new ForgeGrit account
forgegrit api fgk_yourkey    # use an API key you already have
```

Your key is saved to `~/.forgegrit/config.json`, readable only by you.

## Use it

```bash
forgegrit chat                       # interactive chat, replies stream in
forgegrit chat -m gpt-6-astra        # pick a model
forgegrit chat -r                    # resume your latest conversation
forgegrit sessions                   # list saved conversations
forgegrit ask "explain recursion"    # one-shot question
cat notes.txt | forgegrit ask        # pipe text in
forgegrit models                     # list models
forgegrit model claude-sonnet-5-5    # set your default model
forgegrit usage                      # requests used today
forgegrit whoami                     # show the saved login
forgegrit logout                     # forget the saved key
```

Inside `chat`: `/model ID`, `/system TEXT`, `/clear`, `/resume [N]`, `/forget [N]`, `/commands on|off`, `/help`, `/exit`.

## The model can run commands

In `chat`, the model can run shell commands on your machine, as you, in the folder you started it from. You approve every command first: `y` runs it, `n` skips it, `a` approves the rest of the session. `sudo`, `su` and `doas` are always refused. Turn it off with `forgegrit chat --no-commands` or `/commands off`.

## Saved conversations

Every chat is saved to `~/.forgegrit/sessions/`, readable only by you. Use `/resume` (or `forgegrit chat -r`) to pick one up, and `/forget` (or `forgegrit sessions --forget N`) to delete one.

## Project Frominsidge

Gated agentic models for coding, with extra guardrails. Membership is approved by hand.

```bash
forgegrit frominsidge                       # check your status
forgegrit frominsidge enroll "why you want in"
forgegrit frominsidge models                # once you're active
```

Until you're approved, the CLI tells you so instead of sending the request.

## Settings

| Variable | Does |
|---|---|
| `FORGEGRIT_API_KEY` | Use this key instead of the saved one |
| `FORGEGRIT_URL` | Point at a different ForgeGrit server |
| `NO_COLOR` | Turn off colours |

## Note

Chats sent through ForgeGrit are logged by the server with your account, the time, your IP address, the model, your messages and the reply.
