markdown-it-py-rust: Rust mirror of executablebooks/markdown-it-py
==================================================================

This directory holds the rustsmith Stage-1 mirror of
https://github.com/executablebooks/markdown-it-py (Markdown parsing,
done right! Python port of markdown-it).

* Upstream authors: Chris Sewell and individual contributors
* Upstream license: MIT (see the upstream LICENSE file. This port carries
no vendored license text beyond the SPDX tags in each file header).
* Bundled tables: the HTML5 entity table was generated from CPython's
`html.entities.html5` (PSF license, part of the standard library); the
punycode codec mirrors CPython's `encodings/punycode.py` algorithm
  (PSF license).
* This port: behavior-identical, same public API (`markdown_it` package,
`markdown_it._markdown_it` extension module plus thin `markdown_it/*.py`
shims), published as the `markdown-it-py-rust` distribution on PyPI (import
name unchanged: `import markdown_it`) with reusable core crate
`markdown-it-rust-core` on crates.io. Snapshot of upstream 4.2.0 at port
  time (crate/dist version 4.2.0).

Provenance: every artifact preserves the upstream license attribution
(provenance gate). See `release.toml` for the publishing configuration
and `docs/RELEASE.md` for the release procedure.
