render op• Data kinds: image2d → measurement
• Call: import fullseye as fs; fs.ledger.edge_alias_energy(img) -> 'float' (to call the implementation directly, import render_ssaa; render_ssaa.edge_alias_energy(img) -> 'float'; from the registry, ops3d.get("edge_alias_energy"))
The aliasing (jaggy) energy of edges = the RMS of the Laplacian (smaller is smoother).
Rasterisation aliasing appears as sharp staircase corners (a high 2nd derivative). The Laplacian emphasises high frequencies, so its root mean square (RMS) monotonically captures how stair-stepped the boundaries are — once SSAA turns the edges into smooth gradients, the Laplacian's high-frequency energy decreases (low-pass attenuates high frequencies and the Laplacian amplifies them, so the smoother the edges, the smaller this quantity).
Flat interiors and background have Laplacian ≈ 0 and do not contribute, so in effect it is a quantity of the edge band. Colour images use the channel mean. A relative metric for comparing images of the same shape and the same contrast with each other.
