poisson_lite — 3D reconstruct op

• Data kinds: points → mesh

• Call: import fullseye as fs; fs.ledger.poisson_lite(points, size=64, sigma=1.0, iso=0.5, normals=None) (to call the implementation directly, import recon3d; recon3d.poisson_lite(points, size=64, sigma=1.0, iso=0.5, normals=None); from the registry, ops3d.get("poisson_lite"))

Usage

Point set (N,3) → a surface mesh (vertices(V,3), faces(F,3)) — a lightweight screened-Poisson approximation.

Splats the point cloud into a size³ voxel grid, builds an iso-surface field and turns it into a triangle mesh with marching cubes. Output vertices are in the same world coordinates as the input point cloud (inverse mapping from the bbox). bounds is the point-cloud bbox (+ σ-dependent padding).

2 modes:

• normals is None: Gaussian-smooths the occupancy and normalises it to [0,1], fills the interior of the surface band binarised at iso with binary_fill_holes, smooths again, and extracts a single outer shell at iso. An occupancy (unsigned) field is symmetric inside/outside, so the iso-surface of a smoothed thin shell passes through 2 places, the inner and outer slopes, and becomes a concentric double shell. By breaking the inside/outside symmetry with the interior fill, a single shell is obtained from closed surface samples (if dense enough relative to the grid / σ). Open surfaces are not filled and remain thin sheets. If too sparse / σ is small, the fill can leak through gaps and degenerate into a double shell (if an exact inside/outside test is needed, specify normals).

• normals given: builds an inside/outside indicator field from the winding number of the oriented points, Gaussian-smooths it, and extracts the surface at iso (default 0.5). Even with surface-only samples the interior is filled and a closed surface is obtained.

Parameters

points : array_like (N,3)

Input point cloud.

size : int

Side length of the voxel grid (default 64). Larger is finer but O(size³).

sigma : float

Standard deviation of the Gaussian smoothing (in voxels, default 1.0). A padding of ⌈3σ⌉+2 voxels is reserved automatically.

iso : float

Iso-surface level. A value on the normalised field [0,1] (default 0.5).

normals : array_like (N,3) or None

Point normals. If given, winding-number mode; if None, occupancy mode.

Returns

vertices : numpy.ndarray (V,3) float64

Vertices in world coordinates.

faces : numpy.ndarray (F,3) int64

Vertex indices of the triangles (referring to vertices).

Raises

ValueError

Too few points (<4), size too small, occupancy / indicator field too thin so iso is outside the field's range, etc.
