optics op• Data kinds: vector × normals → normals
• Call: import fullseye as fs; fs.ledger.reflect(d, n) (to call the implementation directly, import match3d; match3d.reflect(d, n); from the registry, ops3d.get("reflect"))
Specularly reflect the incident direction d at a surface with normal n. r = d − 2(d·n)n.
d, n are normalised internally (length does not matter), so the return value r is also a unit vector. The last axis is treated as the vector, so it works for (3,) as well as an (N,3) batch (2-D (2,) is also fine). The orientation of n does not matter (n and −n give the same r). Pass d in the "toward the surface" direction (the direction the ray travels). A zero vector is divided by 1e-12 and returned as 0 (no exception).
Uses: the inverse problem of normal_from_reflection, ray tracing of the view line for specular rendering (paired with refract).
