stroke_resample_closed — PRINTPATH stroke op

• Data kinds: pairs → pairs

• Call: import fullseye as fs; fs.ledger.stroke_resample_closed(points, n_points, allow_shortening=False) (to call the implementation directly, import printpath; printpath.stroke_resample_closed(points, n_points, allow_shortening=False); from the registry, opsprintpath.get("stroke_resample_closed"))

Usage

Resamples a closed line at equal arc length. → pairs

The stage before passing to Fourier. ★The coefficients change with the choice of parameterisation (up to 47x measured), so here it is stated explicitly as equally spaced in arc length. The arc-length spacing is constant to machine precision (measured cv 1e-14).

★However, resampling makes the line shorter: consecutive samples are joined by chords, so corners are cut at the bends. Measured (a tour with 300 vertices): 4000 samples give 99.1 % of the length, 1024 give 96.9 %, 300 (same as the vertex count) 89.3 %, 100 give 72.8 %, 50 give 57.7 %. If the length changes, the reproduction of tone also breaks, so fewer samples than input vertices are rejected by default (if intended, allow_shortening=True).
