GetBible · Model Context Protocol

Scripture access built for AI.

Read scripture, resolve references, search verses and explore dictionaries, commentaries and topic bookmarks. GetBible MCP 2.0 covers all nine API contracts through one Python package and a shared MCP interface.

Scripture, query and search support v2 and v3. Dictionaries, commentaries and bookmarks support v1. Public access requires no account or API key.

Remote connection

Configure an MCP client with the URL supplied by an application exposing the /mcp Streamable HTTP endpoint.

Scripture tools default to upstream v3. Select v2 explicitly when needed; dictionary, commentary and bookmark operations use v1.

Local connection

Install the GetBible MCP package and configure the client to launch:

getbible-mcp --transport stdio

Discover, inspect, read

Discover available APIs, inspect an operation's complete contract, then call it. Familiar scripture tools remain available, and v3 results retain lexical tokens, spans and paragraph markers.

Content freshness

The MCP does not persist upstream results. Downstream caches must honor the 30-day maximum, shorter HTTP freshness and published checksums. Query and search are non-cacheable by default.

Preserve translation and study-module rights from their catalogs and metadata. See the cache policy and usage policy.
