Install NetCodex

The desktop app is the easiest way: download, open, done. If you already use Python, pipx or uv install the same app in one line.

Everything runs on your computer. No account, no uploads.

Choose how to install

Desktop app

NetCodex for Windows

Install it, open it, and it finds the AI tools on your computer and their chats by itself. Pick conversations and export them. Everything stays on your machine.

The Windows installer is on its way

Meanwhile, install with pipx or uv and run netcodex desktop. It is the same app.

Choose how to install

All options install the same NetCodex. Pick the one that fits how you work.

Desktop app

Easiest

A regular Windows installer. No Python needed.

  1. The Windows installer is being prepared.

  2. Use pipx or uv for now: they install exactly the same app.

pipx

Installs NetCodex in its own environment. Requires Python 3.12 or newer.

  1. Install pipx if you do not have it.

    • py -m pip install --user pipx
    • py -m pipx ensurepath
  2. Install NetCodex with the desktop window.

    • pipx install "netcodex-agent-exporter[desktop]"
  3. Open it.

    • netcodex desktop

uv

The fast Python tool installer from Astral. Same result as pipx.

  1. Install uv if you do not have it.

    • powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://astral.sh/uv/install.ps1 | iex"
  2. Install NetCodex as a tool.

    • uv tool install "netcodex-agent-exporter[desktop]"
  3. Open it.

    • netcodex desktop

Command line

No window at all: list sources, export everything and keep a folder in sync.

  1. Install the command line only.

    • pipx install netcodex-agent-exporter
  2. See what NetCodex finds.

    • See detected tools
      netcodex sources
  3. Export everything to a folder.

    • Export everything
      netcodex export --all --out exports
  4. Or keep exporting new chats every minute.

    • Keep exporting
netcodex watch --out exports --interval 60

If Windows says it protected your PC

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning the first time. It is a precaution for new downloads, not a virus alert.

  1. Windows shows a blue window

It says Windows protected your PC. Only a Don't run button is visible.

  2. Choose More info

The link under the message reveals the app name and a second button.

  3. Choose Run anyway

The installer starts. Windows remembers your choice for this file.

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning the first time. It is a precaution for new downloads, not a virus alert.

Check the file before you run it

Compare the SHA-256 checksum of the downloaded file with the one shown on this page. If they match, the file is exactly the one we published.

In PowerShell, from your Downloads folder:

  • Get-FileHash .\NetCodex-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256

Installation questions

What do I need?

For the desktop app, Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). For pipx or uv, Python 3.12 or newer on Windows, macOS or Linux.

Does it need administrator rights?

No. The Windows installer installs for your user only, and pipx and uv install into your user folder.

How do I update?

Download the new installer and run it over the old one, or run pipx upgrade netcodex-agent-exporter (uv tool upgrade netcodex-agent-exporter with uv).

How do I uninstall?

On Windows use Settings, Apps, NetCodex, Uninstall. With pipx run pipx uninstall netcodex-agent-exporter; with uv, uv tool uninstall netcodex-agent-exporter. Your exported files stay where they are.

Where do my exports go?

To a folder you choose in the app (by default NetCodex Exports in your Documents). The command line writes to the folder you pass with --out.
