# TealTiger MCP Server

MCP server that exposes TealTiger's guardrails, cost tracking, and security checks as tools for Claude Desktop, Cursor, Kiro, and any MCP-compatible client.

All enforcement runs locally — no data leaves your process.

## When to use this (vs. the SDK vs. framework adapters)

TealTiger governance ships in three forms, all built on the **same core engine** — pick by how much control you need:

**Key distinction:** the SDK and framework adapters are the **enforcement path** — governance runs inline and cannot be skipped. The MCP server exposes **callable governance tools**; a model may choose *not* to call them, so it is a complement to the SDK, **not a replacement** for guaranteed enforcement.

Good fits for the MCP server:
- MCP clients (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Kiro) that want on-demand PII / cost / injection checks.
- Non-Python/TS runtimes (e.g. a Java/Spring service) that reach governance over the protocol instead of reimplementing it.
- Interactive checks during development.

### Language support & clients

- **Serves any language.** MCP is a language-agnostic JSON-RPC protocol. The server is implemented in Python (it wraps the TealTiger Python engine), but **any MCP client — Python, TypeScript, Java, etc. — can connect.** The client never imports the Python code; it speaks the protocol.
- **You do not need a "TealTiger client."** The MCP *clients* are your existing host apps (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Kiro, Cline) or the official MCP client SDKs (`mcp` for Python, `@modelcontextprotocol/sdk` for TS). Point your client at this server using the config below.
- **Deployment note:** because the server is Python, the host needs Python available (or run it via `uvx` / a container). That's a deployment detail, not a language limitation on callers.

## Status

> **Pre-release.** This package is functional and fully tested but **not yet published to PyPI**. Install from source (below) until the first release lands. The `pip install` / `uvx` instructions will work once it is published.

## Available Tools

### Guardrails

| Tool | Description |
|------|-------------|
| `check_pii` | Scan text for PII (emails, phones, SSNs, credit cards). Pure regex, sub-millisecond. |
| `check_injection` | Detect prompt injection and jailbreak attempts. Local pattern matching. |
| `check_content` | Scan for content policy violations (harmful, violent, sexual content). |
| `evaluate_guardrails` | Run all guardrails at once. Recommended for pre-flight checks. |
| `redact_pii` | Redact PII and return cleaned text. |

### Cost Tracking

The MCP server wraps the TealTiger Python SDK. All processing happens locally in the server process. No data is sent to external services (except content moderation, which optionally uses the OpenAI Moderation API with a local regex fallback).
