Minimum sight distance over a crest vertical curve (parabola) (closed form). Scenarios S065, S081 (near the top of an uphill grade).
With only radius, the curve is of infinite length (sight distance fits within the curve): S = √(2R)(√h₁ + √h₂). With grade_in / grade_out (ratios, uphill positive) and length = horizontal length L of the curve, A = grade_in − grade_out (> 0), R = L/A, and if S ≤ L the formula above, if S > L then S = L/2 + (√h₁ + √h₂)²/A. h₁ = eye_height, h₂ = object_height (defaults 1.2 m and 0.1 m = Road Structure Ordinance (Japan) Article 2 item 24. To see an oncoming vehicle, h₂ = vehicle height). Return value: sight, radius, within_curve (S ≤ L).
