Without a key the sidecar is local-only. With one it can also route to OpenRouter's free models — verified working before each use, and rotated when one throttles.
The key is applied immediately and never sent back to this page — only a masked preview. Unless you tick "remember", it lives in the running daemon and is gone when you restart it.

Local models — will they fit?
Normally a tier picks its own model each time, testing candidates until one answers. Clicking a slot below locks that tier to one model instead: no searching, no budget, no swapping if it breaks. Click the same slot again to unlock it.

Every reply shows the model that answered, what it cost, and whether it came from cache.
The whole conversation is sent each turn, so context carries. Nothing is stored server-side — reloading this page starts over.
Ask a question
Searches, reads the top pages in full, and answers from those only — so it reflects the web now, not training data. Says so when the sources don't settle it, rather than guessing.
Verify claims
Each claim is searched, then graded against what came back. Cited.
Fact-check a document
Pulls the claims out of prose first, then verifies each one.
Summarise
Runs on the fast tier at temperature 0, so it's repeatable and cached.
Classify
Labels are enforced — anything invented comes back as "unknown".
Extract fields
Anything not stated comes back null, never a plausible guess.
Extract claims
Self-contained checkable statements, pronouns resolved.
Search the web
SearXNG when it's running, DuckDuckGo otherwise. No key either way.
