  The landing page used to draw a footer strip of its own to carry the version
  and the install route. That put a site-wide fact inside one page's body: it
  showed on the home page only, and every release had to remember to bump a
  line of prose in the middle of a Markdown file.

  Carry it here instead, beside the copyright, so every page states the version
  a reader would install and links to the artefact that ships it. The version
  comes from `extra.package_version` in `mkdocs.yml`, which a test pins to the
  version this tree packages.
