最小値と最大値の両方を返す演算子だが、この代役では最大値のみを実装
しており最小値の情報は失われる(データが欠落した近似 ―― 名前が示す
「min_max」の半分しか計算していない点は正直に明記しておく)。
`a, b` は未使用。
