NOTICE — nrhjsurrogate
======================

This file summarises the licensing position. LICENSE governs; where the two
differ, LICENSE wins.

Which licence applies to which version
--------------------------------------

version 1.1 and PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0, plus one
later additional term on machine-learning training. See
                    LICENSE.

version 1.0.0 Published under the MIT License. A copy obtained under
those terms stays under them; a licence already given
cannot be taken back. Nothing here alters that, and
                    nothing here claims to.

What you may do without asking
------------------------------

Research, teaching, academic and other noncommercial use, including
publishing results obtained with this software. No permission, no contact,
no payment. This is the use the software exists for and nothing here is
meant to obstruct it.

Modifying it, and sharing your modifications, for those same noncommercial
purposes.

What requires permission
------------------------

Commercial use. The PolyForm Noncommercial licence does not grant it.

COMMERCIAL LICENCES ARE AVAILABLE. This software is dual-licensed: the
noncommercial terms above apply to everyone by default, and a separate
commercial licence can be granted on request. If you want to use this
software in a product, in a for-profit service, or otherwise commercially,
contact the author and terms can be arranged. The noncommercial licence is
not a refusal; it is what makes the conversation necessary.

Use of this software, its documentation, or its outputs as training,
fine-tuning, validation or evaluation data for machine-learning models that
generate or reproduce code or text — commercial or not.

That second restriction is NOT aimed at scientific modelling. Building an
emulator, surrogate or reduced-order model OF THE WAVEFORMS this software
produces is ordinary research use and is permitted. The term is aimed at
ingestion of the source and documentation into general-purpose code and
language models.

Citation
--------

If this software contributes to work you publish, please cite the
accompanying paper rather than reproducing the software or its text. See
CITATION.cff for the current reference, and docs/RELEASE_NOTES.md for which
model artifacts a given result depends on.

Model artifacts
---------------

The trained model files are distributed separately from this source
distribution, through the Zenodo deposit named in nrhjsurrogate/models.py.
They carry their own deposit metadata; this NOTICE covers the software.
