Website Sale UoM Continuous

Beta License: AGPL-3 OCA/e-commerce Translate me on Weblate Try me on Runboat

Allows to sell decimal quantities of products in continuous units of measure (kg, L, m, …) on the eCommerce.

By default, Odoo casts the quantities added to the cart to integers, so a customer can’t buy 2.5 kg of a product. With this module, quantities are rounded according to the unit of measure:

This applies to the product page, the product configurator, the cart, the checkout summary and the quick reorder.

The cart quantity shown in the header counts each line in a continuous unit of measure as a single item, e.g. 2.5 kg and 3 units count as 4 items.

Use Cases / Context

A greengrocer sells its fruits and vegetables online. Bananas are sold by kg, at 2.00 per kg, while pineapples are sold by the piece.

A customer wants to buy 1.5 kg of bananas and 2 pineapples. Out of the box, the eCommerce only accepts integer quantities: the customer can buy 1 or 2 kg of bananas, but not 1.5 kg, although that’s how bananas are sold in the shop and in the backend.

With this module, the customer can set 1.5 kg of bananas on the product page or in the cart, and the order line holds 1.5 kg, at 3.00. Pineapples, sold by the piece, still only accept integer quantities: they can’t be split.

Usage

  1. Create a product sold in a continuous unit of measure, e.g. kg, and publish it on the website.
  2. On its product page, set the quantity to 2.5 and add it to the cart.
  3. The cart line holds 2.5 kg, and its quantity can be changed to any value allowed by the “Product Unit” decimal precision.

Products sold in Units keep integer quantities: setting 2.5 on their product page, in the product configurator or in the cart turns it into 2.
