Six short steps get a fresh device talking. Everything here can be changed later on the Settings and Plugins pages.
1. Access token
Set an access token to unlock installing, speaking, and device controls on this device.

2. Your language
Need a language that is not listed? Set the exact code on the Settings page.
3. Ears and voice for that language
These are the plugins OpenVoiceOS recommends for your language. Install one for hearing (speech to text) and one for speaking (voice).
4. Hear it speak
If nothing comes out, restart the OVOS services after installing a voice, then try again — you can do that on the Device page.
5. Try a question
Everything installed? Ask the device something on the Try it page — you see which skill answers and what it says.
6. Say your wake word
The typed test above skips the microphone and the wake word. This checks they really work: press the button, then say your wake word out loud to the device.
