## Installation

Ensure you have Python 3.10+ installed. You can install the package directly from [PyPI](https://pypi.org/project/doors-client/):

If you are cloning the repository for local development, install the required Python dependencies with:

## Overview

Integrating Python data pipelines with legacy IBM Rational DOORS databases is difficult. Developers are often forced to write raw DXL scripts or deal with fragile, untyped dictionaries. 

This project acts as an automated Object-Relational Mapper (ORM) for DOORS. It uses headless DXL scripts to extract the attribute schema of any DOORS Formal Module, converts that schema into a standard JSON Schema, and leverages `datamodel-codegen` to build Pydantic models.

## Usage

Generate models and extract data directly from the CLI:

### Fast Lookups and Data Filtering
Extract objects efficiently using an O(1) index or filter by exact attributes. The custom list natively handles complex DOORS enumerations, lists, and string normalization.

### Link Traceability Analysis
Evaluate incoming and outgoing DOORS links dynamically. The generated base models provide built-in properties to identify link statuses and traverse relationships across different formal modules.

## System Requirements

- IBM Rational DOORS: The DOORS client must be installed on your local machine.
- DOORS Executable: Set the `DOORS_EXE_PATH` environment variable to point to your `doors.exe` installation (e.g., `C:/Program Files/IBM/Rational/DOORS/9.7/bin/doors.exe`), or explicitly pass the `--doors-exe` flag to the CLI when running the script.
