API Keys

Vaani uses OpenAI for transcription and Anthropic for text enhancement. Your keys are stored securely in macOS Keychain.

Get yours at platform.openai.com/api-keys
Get yours at console.anthropic.com/settings/keys

Microphone

Select your microphone and test it to make sure Vaani can hear you.

Speak into your microphone to see the level meter respond

Hotkey

This is the key you hold down to record. Release it to stop and transcribe.

Press Escape to cancel recording a new hotkey

Permissions

Vaani needs these macOS permissions to work. Click "Grant Access" to open the system prompt.

After granting access in System Settings, click "Refresh Status" to update.

Note: If running from a terminal, grant permissions to your terminal app (e.g. Terminal, iTerm, Cursor) in System Settings.
