Installation

OpenClip works on Linux, macOS, and Windows. Choose your installation method.

Requirements

  • Python 3.12 or newer
  • ffmpeg — video and audio processing
  • libsndfile1 — Linux only
  • Redis (optional) — production mode with Celery workers
  • PostgreSQL (optional) — production database

One-Command Install (Recommended)

Linux / macOS

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ahmdd4vd/OpenClip/main/scripts/install.sh | bash

Windows (PowerShell)

irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ahmdd4vd/OpenClip/main/scripts/install.ps1 | iex

Verify installation:

openclip --help

Manual Install

1. Clone Repository

git clone https://github.com/ahmdd4vd/OpenClip.git
cd OpenClip

2. Install Dependencies

python3 -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate
pip install -e ".[dev]"

3. System Dependencies

Ubuntu/Debian

sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y ffmpeg libsndfile1 redis-server postgresql

macOS (Homebrew)

brew install ffmpeg libsndfile redis postgresql

Windows

  • ffmpeg: Download from ffmpeg.org, extract, and add to PATH
  • Redis/PostgreSQL: optional, install for production mode

Troubleshooting

Python version too old

OpenClip requires Python 3.12+. Install the latest version:

  • Ubuntu: sudo apt install python3.12
  • macOS: brew install python@3.12
  • Windows: Download from python.org

ffmpeg not found

  • Ubuntu: sudo apt install ffmpeg
  • macOS: brew install ffmpeg
  • Windows: Download from ffmpeg.org

Permission denied on install script

Make the script executable:

chmod +x install.sh

Windows execution policy

If PowerShell blocks the script:

Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Scope CurrentUser
