Frequently asked questions

What counts as "commercial use"?

Any use where you or your organisation derive economic value — directly (paid product, client work) or indirectly (internal tooling that supports a revenue-generating business, startup of any stage). When in doubt, assume commercial.

Can I try it commercially before buying?

Yes. The Cloud Sandbox plan is free and lets you evaluate the full API. It is not intended for sustained commercial production use — upgrade to Pro before you ship.

When does the BSL 1.1 convert to open-source?

Each version becomes Apache 2.0 four years after its release date. The exact Change Date is listed in LICENSE.txt in the repository.

Can I contribute to Engramia?

A contributor licence agreement (CLA) is required before external PRs are accepted. See CONTRIBUTING.md for details. (CLA policy is a planned Phase 6 item.)
