mesh_process op• Data kinds: mesh → measurement
• Call: import fullseye as fs; fs.ledger.mesh_area(mesh) -> 'float' (to call the implementation directly, import mesh_props; mesh_props.mesh_area(mesh) -> 'float'; from the registry, ops3d.get("mesh_area"))
The surface area of a triangle mesh (the sum of all triangle areas). → float.
Area = Σ 0.5·|cross(v1−v0, v2−v0)|. Rather than a naive approximation that multiplies the vertex count by a constant, it sums the actual face sizes, so it correctly follows the scale and shape of the mesh.
Args:
mesh: tuple of (vertices (N,3), faces (M,3)).
Returns:
Surface area (non-negative float).
Raises:
ValueError: when mesh is not the 2 elements (vertices, faces), the shape is invalid, coordinates are non-finite, an index is non-integer or
out of range, it is empty, or there is a triangle whose 3 vertices include the same index.
Note: unlike face_normals, a degenerate triangle (area 0) whose coordinates lie almost on a straight line is not rejected but added as 0. Duplicate faces and double-sided faces (2 sheets, front and back) are counted 2 times as they are. The unit is the square (power 2) of the coordinate unit.
• blender_interop — Using Blender alongside — build the shape, measure it with fullseye (pitfalls: axes, units, ground truth)
• Sample-data catalog (download URLs / licences) — 2-D uses skimage.data (BSD/public domain) plus synthetic images; 3-D lists download URLs for real data sources (Stanford, PDS, …).
