transform op• Data kinds: mesh → points
• Call: import fullseye as fs; fs.ledger.mesh_to_points(vertices, faces, samples=20000, seed=0) (to call the implementation directly, import match3d; match3d.mesh_to_points(vertices, faces, samples=20000, seed=0); from the registry, ops3d.get("mesh_to_points"))
Mesh (vertices + faces) → a surface point set (area-weighted uniform sampling). The mesh → point-cloud conversion.
Procedure: the area 0.5·|(b−a)×(c−a)| of each triangle tri = vertices[faces] is used as a probability, samples faces are drawn with replacement, and on each face u, v ~ U(0,1) is drawn; if u + v > 1 it is folded back to (1−u, 1−v) (uniform barycentric). Point = a + u(b−a) + v(c−a). seed fixes default_rng, so the same arguments give the same point cloud.
• vertices (V,3) float, faces (F,3) int (0-based vertex indices).
• Returns (samples, 3) float64. Exactly samples points regardless of the number of faces.
• If all faces are degenerate (total area 0), the probabilities become NaN and rng.choice raises ValueError.
• No normals are attached (add them with estimate_point_normals). Area weighting means larger faces get more points;
the result does not depend on vertex density.
