pc_lod_chain — 3D resolution op

• Data kinds: points → table

• Call: import fullseye as fs; fs.ledger.pc_lod_chain(points, spacing, levels=3, seed=0) (to call the implementation directly, import meshres; meshres.pc_lod_chain(points, spacing, levels=3, seed=0); from the registry, ops3d.get("pc_lod_chain"))

Usage

Poisson-disk levels at doubling spacings (table).

Level 0 is the input; level *k* keeps no two points closer than spacing × 2^(k−1). Returns levels (list of clouds), spacings, counts.

Procedure: level 0 = the input point cloud (a validated float64 copy). Level k (1..levels) is the immediately preceding level with pc_poisson_disk(prev, spacing * 2**(k-1), seed=seed + k - 1) applied (thinning is cumulative, so the points of a coarse level are always contained in the finer levels too = nested). Points are not moved (no centroid shift like grid averaging).

Arguments: points (N, 3) (finite, at most MAX_POINTS), spacing > 0 (the minimum point-to-point distance of level 1, in the same unit as the coordinates), levels an integer 1..16, seed the random seed for the Poisson-disk visiting order (deterministic if fixed).

Return value (dict): levels (a list of levels + 1 arrays of shape (n_k, 3)), spacings ([0.0, spacing, 2*spacing, ...]; 0 for level 0), counts (number of points per level), n_levels (levels + 1).

Validation (ValueError): bad shape, non-finite or too many points / spacing non-positive / levels not an integer or out of range.

Note: the point count of each level drops by a factor of 4 (to 1/4), as a rule of thumb ~ area / spacing_k^2, but sparse regions (where the original point spacing is larger than spacing_k) are not thinned and remain. Count what was dropped with pc_thinning_report(points, levels[k]). For mesh LOD, see mesh_lod_chain.
