stipple_points_from_image — PRINTPATH stroke op

• Data kinds: image2d → pairs

• Call: import fullseye as fs; fs.ledger.stipple_points_from_image(image, n_points, iterations=30, gamma=1.0, floor=0.02, seed=0, metric='euclidean') (to call the implementation directly, import printpath; printpath.stipple_points_from_image(image, n_points, iterations=30, gamma=1.0, floor=0.02, seed=0, metric='euclidean'); from the registry, opsprintpath.get("stipple_points_from_image"))

Usage

Maps grey levels to point density (weighted Lloyd = centroidal Voronoi). → pairs

Points gather densely where it is dark. Returns (n_points, 2) as (row, col).

Args:

image: 2-D brightness in [0, 1] (or colour; reduced to luminance).

n_points: number of points.

iterations: number of iterations of Lloyd.

gamma: makes the weight darkness ** gamma (1 = darkness as is).

floor: lower bound of the weight. Do not set it to 0 -- if the weight of a pure-white region is exactly 0,

points that enter it cannot move (centroid 0/0) and their positions stop depending on the input.

seed: random numbers for the initial placement.

metric: currently only "euclidean".

Besides the return value, convergence can be measured by calling stipple_points_from_image with different iterations and comparing (Lloyd's energy decreases monotonically).

★Even on a pure-white image the points spread evenly (with constant density, centroidal Voronoi is uniform). That serves as the control group for "it can actually read tone".
