rough VO pass for ep 180, unedited, ignore the ums

so the thing nobody tells you about running your own inference box is that the
cost you actually pay isn't the electricity it's the attention. every time a
driver updates something breaks and you're the sysadmin now. um. but here's
where I was wrong in episode 142 - I said local models are never worth it for a
working creator and I want to walk that back on camera because the transcription
case completely破 breaks my own argument. four minutes of compute for forty
minutes of audio, zero marginal cost, and the footage never leaves the room
which turned out to matter for contract reasons.

the number that convinced me was five months. five months of payback on a
seventeen fifty euro card just from not paying for transcription. that's not a
hobby that's a line item.

second half of the video is the parts where local still loses. thumbnails. every
local image model I tried is worse than what I get from the paid tools and it's
not close. and anything that needs to be right the first time, um, you still
want the big model.
