Scope Tab

Description

The scope displays HP-IL frames that can be captured at up to two different points along the pyILPER virtual loop.

These data-capturing devices are called Probe1 and Probe2. The following diagram shows the probes at their default location.

The probes do not have a tab in the tab bar. Their position can be moved in the HP-IL device configuration function of the file menu

Frames captured by Probe1 are displayed in uppercase; frames captured by Probe2 are displayed in lowercase. By default, only frames captured by Probe1 are displayed. The output of the scope can be logged to a file. Text selected with the mouse can be copied to the system clipboard.

Device controls

  • Device enabled checkbox: If this box is checked, the captured frames will be displayed by the screen and written to the log file (if activated). Since the scope is not an addressable HP-IL device, the HP-IL loop does not need to be reconfigured when the scope is disabled or enabled.
  • Log Scope checkbox: Activates writing the output of the scope to the file Scope.log in the pyILPER working directory. Output is always appended to that file. A time stamp in the file marks the start and the end of each logging. The log file is closed automatically on program termination.
  • Tag Logfile button. This allows you to tag (write a comment) to the scope log file. The button opens a prompt window to enter the tag text. The tag text is inserted with a time stamp exactly at the moment you pressed the OK button of the prompt window.
  • Clear button. Clears the scope display. If Log Scope is enabled, a line feed is printed to the file.

Tab configuration menu

  • Terminal width: Switches between an 80-column and a 120-column output Note: Toggling this option will clear the display.
  • Color scheme: choose a black, amber, green, or "paper" color scheme.
  • Font size: Set the font size of the scope output. If Default is selected, the setting of the pyILPER configuration is used.
  • Scrollup buffer: alter the number of lines of the display scroll buffer. Note: changing this value clears the display.
  • Log buffering: enable or disable buffering of the log file. If log buffering is off, the log file output is flushed to disk after an end of line is encountered. This allows for watching the log file output but may decrease the execution speed of pyILPER considerably.
  • Show IDY frames: Activates the output of IDY frames. This option is only useful if firmware version 1.6 is installed on the PIL-Box.
  • Display mode: show mnemonic only, show hex code only, or show both mnemonic and hex code.
  • Log mode: selects if only frames captured by Probe1 (uppercase letters), only frames captured by Probe2 (lowercase letters), or frames from both probes are displayed.
